Night Instructor Qualification

A minimum of one hour of further flight instruction is required together with associated ground tuition to remove the "No Night Instruction" restriction. The course can be completed in one day between the end of October and mid February. Shoreham airport closes at 7pm in the winter. Insufficient darkness is available at other times of the year. It is possible to incorporate the training into the basic course at suitable times of the year for a small additional charge.

Instrument Instructor Rating (IRI)

Although the course may be completed whilst the instructor is still restricted FI(R), the privileges of the rating cannot be exercised until the supervisory restriction is removed. Subject to complying with the appropriate pre-entry requirements, the course consists of at least five hours of flight instruction and 35 hours of theoretical training. A skill test with a Flight Instructor Examiner must be passed at the end of the course.

Aerobatics Instructor

The candidate should have sufficient recent experience of flying aerobatic manoeuvres before commencing the course. The course consists of a minimum of five hours of flying training and eight hours of theoretical knowledge training. No test is required. Preferably the candidate will provide his or her own aerobatic aeroplane.

Multi Engine (Class Rating) Instructor (MEI)

This course also requires five hours of flying training in a multi-engine aeroplane and 25 hours of theoretical knowledge training. A skill test is required at the end of the course.
